Machines

I think the #1 thing I want to know about other quilters is what machine(s) they use. I used to have a massive case of sewing machine envy, but now that my lovely and amazing wife has provided me with a brand new machine, I'm cured!

Without futher ado...

I could talk about this machine all day. It has made quilting and sewing so much easier and enjoyable. If you have any questions about this machine, let me know in the comments! I'm happy to answer any questions.

Singer Ingenuity 7436

A much shorter name, but also an extremely simple machine. I've had this singer since 2007 and it has served its purpose. I quilted five quilts from start to finish on this machine, as well as many other projects over the years. I have done straight line and free motion quilting on this bad boy on quilts as large as 66"x71". I don't know if you see it, but the throat space on this machine is about 6". Shoving a big quilt through that tiny space was rough, especially when free motion quilting.

I will admit I did not take care of this machine as I should have. I didn't clean it regularly and never once took it in for maintenance. There was also a solid five year period where I didn't even touch it! Poor singer!  I was experiencing a lot of un threading, thread breaking, and tension issues and it was turning quilting into a nightmare. Many profanities were uttered when quilting on this machine. There would be certain points where I would quit sewing for the day because I was so frustrated.

Would I ever buy this machine again? GOD no. No way. But it isn't a bad option if you are on a budget and don't need to do anything fancy. Or if you hate quilting. This has been a great machine for piecing tops!
